В России имеют государственную регистрацию около 200 тысяч неправительственных организаций. Сколько еще действуют без регистрации, хотя имеют устав, руководителя и членов, достоверно сказать невозможно. А сколько существует относительно устойчивых неформальных объединений людей по интересам, подсчету в принципе не поддается. Пожалуй, трудно найти человека в России, который бы никогда не состоял ни в одном гражданском объединении: кружке танцев, художественной или музыкальной школе, секции борьбы, школьной футбольной команде, лиге студентов, товариществе собственников жилья, гаражном кооперативе, садовом обществе, профсоюзе, политической партии, клубе выпускников университета, родительском комитете в школе. Причем, как правило, чем выше социализация человека, то есть включенность в общественную жизнь, тем в большем числе различных объединений он активно участвует.
